"As in the ocean's mid-most depth no wave is born, but all is till. So let the monk be still, be motionless."
   So spoke the Buddha, blessed with knowledge after years of austerity and meditation. And in the silence of caves and hills the Buddha's disciples Celebrated their Master and sought to attain salvation. Before he passed into Parinirvana- that state of mystic absorption when all consciousness of individuality cease - the Master spoke of the four places the devout should visit. The grove of Lumbini- where he was born; Bodhgaya- where he attainted enlightenment; Saranath- where the wheel of the law was set in motion; and Kushinagar- where he passed into Parinirvana. Emperors and pilgrims have worshipped at these and other buddhist shrines.
